Mmm so utilitarian.

Impressive.
Wouldn’t take it if given it for free.
Carfax looks one owner, though.

So tempting ... if you’ve got 5 grand to sink into it, do it. Otherwise, no.

Thats what I figured the answer would be.
Something thats nice to view from a far, but not to own.

Listing not there to see but otherwise £2,400 for a 1990 is a great price. Rangies of that year are between two and five times that price (barring in mind they are still quite plentiful) here with similar number of miles on the clock.

Do it.

My answer was going to be:
“There’s this guy, Doug DeMuro...”

Normally I would say CP right after the word Range Rover. However if you happen to have 5 grand more that a relative who you hated passed away and gave you, this would be a great way to spend the money all the while dis-honoring their memory. You also need a regular car to use while this one is in the shop.

100% buy. RRCs are collectors are going WAY up in value. Ignore Doug Carmax DeMuro. Check for rust, especially around the tailgate and front floors (windshield seal leaks). To honest, this is hilariously underpriced.

I used to think you were an okay guy. Now, I’m not so sure.

I disagree, at this price you can put $5000 into refreshing it and you have a $10000 truck. Shit, I’m annoyed now that I didn’t go with my buddy to Ann arbor this weekend.
![]() 02/12/2016 at 08:51 |

Seriously, I sent it to my buddy as he’s up that way this weekend and has been toying with the idea of getting a truck for camping.

I don’t know, man. This is a truck that has lived the last 26 years in Michigan. That climate isn’t kind to normal cars, let alone 1980s British vehicles; I have no doubt it’s rusty as hell.
Beyond that I bought a ‘95 Classic that had essentially undergone a full restoration, and it still stranded me twice in six months with insanely stupid issues.
Never again.

I am an OK guy. I just happened to have owned a Classic!

It’s called the “Country” because you need the GDP of Burundi or maybe Djibouti just to keep it running.

Probably one of the most reliable Landys. You just have shitty luck.

I wish I had some spare cash... I’d send my dad over (he’s less than 2 hours away) to grab it.

Looking at the photo of the back seat, it doesn’t appear to have a gaping rust hole in on top of the wheel arch - which is basically a given 9/10 on Classics - so I think this Rangie was garage kept.
That being said, pull the air suspension and make sure the ABS unit is replaced or swap in Disco brakes and you’ve got yourself a pretty dependable Classic. The 3.9l V8 has way less problems than any of the other Rover V8's.
I’m seeing Classics in good condition going for North of $10k. Excellent condition and you’re looking at $18k territory.
If it were me, I’d offer the guy $2500 cash, get myself a 300Tdi and R380 box in there with coil sprung suspension and only have to worry about rust from then on out.

Yeah I saving up for importing a Defender so my cash is spoken for.

I don’t know. The condition of the lug nuts and the rust by the license plate are enough to make me want to get it in the air, and I have a feeling I wouldn’t love what I’d see. With that said, I admit I’m impressed with the lack of any rust on the tailgate glass. My truck also didn’t have any rust there, and I was lucky — I know that’s maybe the most common spot where it happens.

You’d be a fool, Doug. But that goes without saying because you bought a L322 body style. This classic is little more complicated than a gas-V8 D110.

Valid concerns, the rust around the tail gate seems to be recent from it sitting in the dealers lot though. The price just seems to good to be true though, so I’d take it somewhere else to get a thorough check out.
I did send it to my buddy and if he doesn’t want it I’m sending it to my Land Rover club, one of them will leap on that like a fat kid on a cupcake.
Edit: Also tail gates on Rangies do rust, you can by Aluminium replacements though.

Also, a clean Rangie for comparison. Baring any major rust issues, you’ll recoup all your money to put into this one.

I asked my buddy to take a look at it, Michigan Winters aren’t very kind to vehicles in general but if the rust isn’t bad... I might be tempted the more I think about it.

I recall test driving one of these when new - decided to keep my 300D. But an ‘87 300D was unreliable as well - Mercedes wound up admitting the diesel 6 in that car was a bad idea - they replaced the turbo and trap oxidizer when it failed for no charge. Should have bought the Rangie.

nah, he’s still about 5 hours from the spot. He’s visiting family up near Detroit so at some point this weekend maybe. I told him to lift the carpet up in the back and check underneath if there is any bad rust.

I bought mine after a mate had looked at it. First time I saw it was when I picked it up. Rust not so much of an issue here though...

It’s pretty bad in Michigan, there’s a reason that region of the country is called the “rust belt”.
